The 150th birth anniversary of the last Russian Emperor is celebrated today on May 18 in Russia, TASS informs. Nicholas II was born in 1868 in Tsarskoye Selo in Saint Petersburg. He came to rule the Russian Empire in 1894 and headed the sate up until 1917. The Tsar abdicated the throne after the Russian February Revolution, when the Provisional Government was formed. Nicholas II and his family with several servants were shot dead in Yekaterinburg in a year after that.

Nicholas II was canonized by the Russian Orthodox Church abroad and a bit later, in the beginning of the 21st century, by the Russian Orthodox Church as well.

Russian politicians proposed to install a monument to Nicholas II in the Russia’s capital. The State Duma deputy Ivan Sukharev believes that eternalizing the memory of the Last Russian Emperor is to re-establish the historical justice.

Several events are timed with this anniversary. There will be a forum dedicated to keeping the Emperor’s heritage. The forum is to join several cities: Yekaterinburg, Moscow and Saint Petersburg. The Emperor’s ball is planned for the senior schoolchildren studying with distinction too.

A motorcycle race is appointed for tomorrow. The beginning of the route is at the Church of the Spilled Blood built on the spot of shooting the Tsar’s Family. The final destination is the Monastery of the Holy Royal Martyrs.
