Meeting of Sharapova and Halep called best tennis match of 2017

Meeting between Russian tennis star Maria Sharapova and Romanian player Simona Halep was acknowledged the best tennis match of Grand Slam of Tennis 2017 according to WTA, TASS reports. It was held at the end of August at US Open and lasted for two hours and forty minutes.

Maria Sharapova managed to leave behind Romanian player at the end of three sets (6:4, 4:6, 6:3) in this difficut match. It is noteworthy that this was a match of the first round, however it was as spectacular and dramatic as finals. The meeting of the titled tennis players at the early stage of Open championships became possible only because Maria Sharapova lost her positions in WTA ranking due to her 15-month disqualification and failed to enter the list of 32 best players of this tournament. Simona Halep was the second best player. Organizers provided Sharapova with a wild card considering her past success.

Our tennis player managed to get to the forth round at US Open where she lost to Latvian player Anastasija Sevastova. However, a month and a half ago, Maria Sharapova won WTA competitions in China and got her first title after the disqualification.
