Moscow school children win Metropolis Olympiad

08.09.2017

mos.ruMoscow mayor Sergey Sobyanin handed Metropolis Olympiad's prizes to Moscow, Shanghai, and Hong Kong junior-high-schoolers, RIA Novosti reports. Students from big cities competed in physics, chemistry, informatics and mathematics.

As Moscow mayor has underlined, big cities are strategic growth points for our planet. They have great potential in the fields of science, education, and high tech. Future specialists from metropolises need to meet, discuss and compete, said Sobyanin.

Let us remember, a similar Olympiad took place a year ago. Moscow students became winners last year. The difference of this tournament with the other ones is that it is conducted not for individuals but for teams consisting of 8 pupils aged from 14 till 18 years old, two people per discipline.

This year 36 teams from 26 countries took part in the Olympiad, in overall 400 participants – 1,5 times more than a year ago.
