First time first grade: Russia celebrates Knowledge Day

Vitali Nevar/TASSAll Russian schools start academic year with solemn school assembly. More than fifteen million children will go to schools today. Almost two million of them are first grade pupils, so it will be the first academic year for them, RIA Novosti informs.

All-Russia’s public lesson Russia Facing Future will be conducted today for the children. They will get to know about preservation of nature and state security. Vladimir Putin will take part in the lesson. President will communicate with schoolchildren by teleconference. Over one million of schoolchildren plan to attend the lesson.

Earlier Minister of Education named five directions of free optional courses for each secondary educational institution such as theatre, music, technical seminars, sports activities and chess. There will be also optional courses on basic entrepreneurship, cybersecurity and financial literacy. Minister has added that career-guidance will be reintroduced in Russian schools.

Astronomy course of 35 hours will be taught again this year. Schoolchildren will have a chance to study Greek too.
