Foreigners will be able to enter the Kaliningrad Region with online visas, TASS reports. Acting Governor Anton Alykhanov commented that at first visa-free entry was planned but later electronic visa option was chosen. He reminded that earlier e-Visa system was introduced in Vladivostok, and now there is an opportunity to spread this workflow to the most western region of Russia.

“In our view, it is more logical, as Kaliningrad does not have any common borders with Russian Federation and there is no escape from us,” Alikhanov joked. Acting Governor added that an electronic visa can be received on the website of Russian Foreign Service.

An initiative of simplified visa procedure for the region is one of the amendments to the Federal Law "On the Special Economic Zone in the Kaliningrad Region", which passes the final stage of approval on a Federal level.

It is worth reminding that earlier St Petersburg authorities proposed to introduce electronic visas for foreign tourists. Besides, tour operators made the same proposition. In their opinion, e-visas will increase tourist flow significantly.
