According to the Christian custom, a deceased person is commemorated on the ninth day. We do not know for sure, whether the US creators of the stevejobsday2011.com portal did that on purpose, but the hand of God seemed to guide them as they instituted Steve Jobs Day exactly on October 14, 2011. Communities under the same name – SteveJobsDay – suggested that his admirers should be dressed in the Apple founder’s style – black mock turtleneck and jeans with trainers – and then post their photos on the Web site and write how Jobs’ company influenced them. On the same day crowds of people lined up at the Apple stores where the sales of the new iPhone 4S smart phone were to start. In spite of the novelty’s release, the main page of the Apple site still features the iconic photograph of Steve Jobs looking closely at his virtual guests.

Macintosh – a dream computer, an object of sarcastic sneers and effusive love expressions, a declaration object, materialized thought, humanized item... For many the Apple products are both convenient and personified gadgets. When I part with my old Mac, I sweet on it several years and accept a new Mac with some excitement and curiosity. Nothing of the kind happens in my relationship with a PC. This special feeling is not only shared by Americans and Europeans, but also a growing number of Russians. “Apple makes computers for idiots – it’s like a car with an automatic transmission versus the one with a manual gearbox,” said my uncle who has been living in the US for 20 years. Many computer-savvy people from among the baby boomers hold to the same opinion. However the younger generation thinks differently. For instance, web-developer Mike, a good friend of mine, has been programming only on the Macintosh during the recent 5 years, saying it is easier for him to deal with Apple computers than with PC. “It’s simple for me to celebrate Jobs’ Day – says Mike. – On this day I’ll be flying from Moscow to New York and working on my favorite Mac.”

The Jobs memorial portal is organized by the social advertising agency Studiocom which emphasizes that they are not related to Apple and their initiative is an act of good will. Meanwhile some Apple users are outraged saying that the firm speculates the well-known name for self-advertising. Be that as it may, many sincerely believed in this special day and left thousands of photographs in black mock turtlenecks on the stevejobsday2011.com site. “I was looking for it all over the city,” says my friend Marina. “I seemed to be obsessed with an idea to buy a quality item which I’ll then be able to wear, rather than some cheap stuff. In the upshot I spent quite a penny, but I am content with the result.” She coquettishly pointed to the tiny shiny stones on the turtleneck’s cuffs. “I like my photos on the Internet!” she rejoices.

This summer the GQ magazine included Jobs in the list of most tastelessly dressed celebs. “I cannot understand what they mean by ‘taste’,” wonders my designer friend Tamara. “Jobs had his own style, even if minimalistic, and had been true to it for many years.” Now the odds are high that this style comes into fashion from October 14 onward. Name of Vladimir Nemirovich-Danchenko is inscribed in the history of Russian theater along with Konstantin Stanislavski, the other founding father of the Moscow Art Theater. Nevertheless, Mr. Nemirovich-Danchenko was a renowned writer, playwright, and theater teacher even before their famous meeting in the Slavic Bazaar restaurant. Furthermore, it was Mr. Nemirovich-Danchenko who came up with the idea of establishing a new "people's" theater believing that the theater could become a "department of public education."
