13.11.2023

The presentation of a new book 1962. Khrushchev, Kennedy, Castro. How the World Almost Died by the First Deputy Chairman of the Committee of the State Duma of the Russian Federation, Chairman of the Board of the Russkiy Mir Foundation Vyacheslav Nikonov took place in the press center of the Rossiya Segodnya news agency on November, 13.

Vyacheslav Nikonov discussed the reasons behind choosing the Cuban Missile Crisis as a topic. He highlighted key factors contributing to the peaceful resolution of the crisis and drew parallels with the current global military and political situation.

Reflecting on the historical moment in 1962, Nikonov emphasized the gravity of a situation where humanity stood on the brink of potential catastrophe. In his study, he underscores the significance of personal decisions made by Nikita Khrushchev, John F. Kennedy, and Fidel Castro, asserting that the fate of mankind was significantly influenced by these leaders.

In comparing the Cuban Missile Crisis with the present global scenario, the chairman of the board of the Russkiy Mir Foundation highlighted a significant difference: the superiority of Russian weapons over American counterparts in both quantity and characteristics. According to Vyacheslav Nikonov, this superiority leads to cautious behavior from the Americans in their relations with Russia.

"America realizes its weakness, and the most we can do is to scare them by winning in Ukraine," the politician emphasized.
