Russian performer Maria Koronova won the 13th Mikael Tariverdiev International Organ Competition, the final of which was held in Kaliningrad. The winners included participants from China and France. The competition jury was headed by Professor of the Higher Academy of Music of Strasbourg, organist of the Cathedral of Notre Dame in Paris, John Vexo, TASS reports.

The Tariverdiev Competition is considered one of the largest creative competitions for organists in the world. 22 musicians from six countries arrived in Russia and managed to reach the semi-finals. Performers from Russia, China, Canada, France, South Korea and South Africa performed in Kaliningrad. Six of them reached the finals.

A native of the Irkutsk region and a student of the St. Petersburg Conservatory, Maria Koronova won the main award of the competition after completing the final, which took place in the Kaliningrad Cathedral on Kant Island. The Russian woman was awarded an amber figurine of an Organ Angel, created by local craftsmen. In addition, she received a special prize for the best interpretation of Mikael Tariverdiev's music, who gave the name to the international competition.

The second prize was awarded to the Chinese musician Xiaofeng He, and the third prize winner was the Frenchman Jean Nouvel-Alou. A number of Russian participants received special awards.

The prize fund for the project this year totaled $13,000, and various Russian philharmonic societies established special prizes for the contestants.
