The Russian athlete Alexandra Goryachkina won the World Chess Cup, RIA Novosti reports. The tournament was held in the capital of Azerbaijan. She defeated the Bulgarian chess player Nurgyul Salimova in the final match. The two final games in the classic variant failed to determine the winner, both ended in a draw. On a tie-break with a shortened time control, which took place on Monday, August 21, the 24-year-old Russian woman turned out to be stronger.

The bronze medal of the tournament the day before was won by Ukrainian Anna Muzychuk. She beat Tan Zhongyi from China.

The World Cup started on July, 29 in Baku. Russians and Belarusians competed as neutral athletes.
