St. Petersburg students won Math Olympiad in Bulgaria

The team of Saint Petersburg State University won the 30th International Student Mathematics Olympiad IMC-2023, which took place in Blagoevgrad, Bulgaria, the website of the Russian university reports.

During the competition, the St. Petersburg participants outsmarted the representatives of almost 70 universities from many countries. The team, headed by SPbU professor Fyodor Petrov, included seven participants studying for a bachelor's degree.

Four students from St Petersburg University took first place. Russian Ivan Bakharev received a big first prize, Ivan Gaidai-Turlov, like a year earlier, won the highest award of the Olympiad. St Petersburg University student Maxim Turevsky became the absolute winner of the competition, ahead of almost 400 participants.

The Olympiad brought together 70 teams from many countries, including China, Brazil, and the CIS countries. Universities from Moscow, Novosibirsk, Yekaterinburg also sent their teams to Bulgaria.

The intellectual competition is held by University College London at the American University in Bulgaria. Participants must solve 10 problems from various mathematical fields.
