Russian diplomats and employees of the Russian Consulate General in Varna held a solemn wreath and flower laying at the monument to the legendary Russian Admiral Fyodor Ushakov at Cape Kaliakra in Bulgaria. The ceremony was timed to coincide with the Day of the Russian Navy, the telegram channel of the diplomatic mission reports.

The event was attended by representatives of the Berezka Russian club, the Union of Cossacks in European countries, the Night Wolves motorcycle club, Russian compatriots and local residents.

On the last day of July 1791, the Russian squadron under the command of Fyodor Ushakov defeated the Turkish fleet at the battle of Kaliakra. According to historians, the enemy had several times more ships than the Russians. The naval clash was the last in the Russian-Turkish war.

Events in honor of Russian sailors are regularly held in different countries. At the end of last year, Peru honored the memory of Russian sailors buried on the island of San Lorenzo. The sailors served on the Aurora frigate and died in the middle of the 19th century, performing military duty.
