The Finnish authorities are once again tightening restrictions regarding Russian citizens, RIA Novosti reports. They came into force on Monday, July, 10. In particular, the rules for entry into the country for Russians are being tightened even more. They will affect entrepreneurs, students and owners of real estate in the country.

The Finnish Foreign Ministry noted that those citizens of the Russian Federation who need to get to Finland on business are now prohibited from transiting to other countries. In addition, they need to prove that their presence in the country is necessary. Property owners will also have to justify their visits.

Students will be allowed to participate in educational programs for a degree or qualification, as well student exchange. They won't be able, however, to attend educational courses.

Earlier, the Finnish authorities made restrictions on the entry of Russians indefinite. At a government meeting on July, 6, restrictions on the issuance of visas to Russian citizens were also extended for an indefinite period.

Helsinki stopped letting Russian tourists into the country in September last year. Finland made this decision the last of the EU border states.

On July, 6, the Russian Foreign Ministry announced the expulsion of nine Finnish diplomats and the closure of the Finnish Consulate General in St. Petersburg from October, 1. These steps were a response to the actions of Helsinki, which the department called confrontational.
