The International Fencing Federation (FIE) did not allow Russian athletes Sofia Velikaya, Yana Yegoryan and Sofia Pozdnyakova to participate in the competition. They are two-time Olympic champions and world fencing leaders, TASS reports.

The head of the Russian Fencing Federation, Ilgar Mammadov, said that the names of Russians are not on the list of athletes allowed to international competitions by the FIE. Other Russian fencers were not included to the list as well.

Ilgar Mammadov noted that the federation intends to discuss how to handle the situation. In particular, there is a chance that all Russian fencers, including those approved, will skip the international competition.

On March, 10, the FIE announced the admission of Russians to competitions in a neutral status, subject to the recommendations of the International Olympic Committee.
