16th Winter International Arts Festival opens in Sochi

The Winter Arts Festival starts on Wednesday, February 15, TASS reports. Traditionally, it is hosted by Sochi, the festival will be held for the 16th time.

The  "A Gentle Creature" production based on the story of the same name by Feodor Dostoevsky will open the festival. The performance directed by Viktor Kramer has Sergey Garmash as the leading actor. 

According to the organizers, the Winter Festival has become a bright and significant event in the cultural life of the country over the years of its existence.

The gala concert is scheduled for Thursday, February, 16. It is dedicated to the anniversary of Yuri Bashmet, this year the founder and permanent artistic director of the large-scale cultural forum turned 70 years old. Among the concert participants are conductors Justus Frantz, Teodor Currentzis and his Musica Aeterna, as well as Yuri Bashmet's close friend Valery Gergiev.

The festival program will not do without one of the most popular performances - the production of "Don't Leave Your Planet". This year, Konstantin Khabensky and Yuri Bashmet will perform in a production based on Saint-Exupery's The Little Prince at the closing of the festival on February, 27.
