Representatives of 57 countries took part in "The World Reads Chekhov" campaign

Residents of 57 countries became participants in the "The World Reads Chekhov" campaign. It was timed to coincide with the birthday of the great writer, which was celebrated on January, 29, the telegram channel of the Moscow Compatriot House reports.

''The World Reads Chekhov'' campaign  was created by the library of Taganrog, the writer's homeland. There are four museums dedicated to the life of Chekhov in the city, many researchers of his work live there.

The project participants, whose number exceeded 200 people, read fragments from Chekhov's works. Excerpts from Chekhov's stories and plays were performed by students, writers, scientists in 24 languages.

Students of the Lola Mora art school from the Argentine capital drew, edited and voiced two cartoons based on the works of Chekhov. Dressed in costumes of the Chekhov era, the actors of the children's drama studio "Mandarin" from Hurghada filmed a performance based on the "Boys" short story.

The project is aimed at popularizing the literary heritage of the writer. With its help, the organizers hope to unite connoisseurs of Russian literature from all over the world.
