A monument to Fidel Castro appeared in Moscow, TASS reports. It was opened on Tuesday, November 22, with the participation of Russian President Vladimir Putin and his Cuban counterpart Miguel Diaz-Canel Bermudez. A three-meter bronze monument adorned the square in the capital's Sokol district, which also bears Fidel Castro's name.

Sculptor Alexei Chebanenko and architect Andrei Bely created the monument. The work continued for six months. Fidel Castro is depicted standing on a rock with a map of Cuba on it. The image is intended to reflect the heroic path of a man who defended the rights and freedoms of people in his country.

Fidel Castro is one of the leaders of the Cuban revolutionary movement, who served as chairman of the Council of Ministers of Cuba from 1959 to 2008. The politician passed away in 2016.

The idea of creating a monument was put forward by the Russian Ministry of Defense, the initiative was supported by the Russian Military Historical Society.
