The World Chess Championship among children turned out to be very successful for Russian students, TASS reports. The tournament ended on Wednesday, September 28,  in Batumi. The number of young athletes competing for victory was close to 750. They represented about 70 countries.

The best were determined in three age categories: no older than eight, 10 and 12 years.

Among girls under the age of 12, Muscovite Victoria Merkulova was recognized as the best in solving chess problems. Competitions in classical chess brought gold to two more representatives of the capital's chess school: Artyom Uskov won in the category of boys under 12 years old, and Nika Venskaya, who recently moved from Belarus, became the winner among girls under 10 years old.

Roman Shogdzhiev, a resident of Moscow, was awarded the silver medal, and Oksana Goryachkina from Salekhard won the bronze medal.
