Monument to Yuri Gagarin opened in Burundi

A monument to Yuri Gagarin has been unveiled in Gitega, the capital of Burundi, the website of the Russian Foreign Ministry reports. The solemn ceremony was timed to coincide with the International Cosmonautics Day, which was celebrated on April 12. Russian diplomats and compatriots, graduates of Russian universities, as well as government officials and journalists took part in the opening ceremony.

The monument to the first cosmonaut of the planet adorned the area in front of the main entrance to the Russian embassy.

The Dialogue of Cultures - United World charitable foundation erected dozens of monuments to the cosmonaut in many countries - from Argentina to China, from the USA to Australia. By the 60th anniversary of the first flight into space, the number of monuments approached sixty, they were installed in 50 countries. The fund is sponsored by Russian compatriots.
