The demand for books in Russian in Latvia remains, despite the fight against the language announced by the country's authorities. The Latvian libraries continue to buy books in Russian, and many readers are wondering if new anti-Russian sanctions will lead to the absence of new Russian books, Baltnews reports.

It is noted that Latvian libraries possess a variety of books in Russian, including fiction and popular science literature, as well as periodicals. For example, Russian-language magazines about science, travel and medicine are in demand among residents of  Liepaja.

Readers actively ask for the works of Russian classics and contemporary writers writing in Russian.

Liepaja libraries hope that in the future they will be able to buy Russian-language books, which are in great demand among readers. Every third visitor comes for books and magazines in Russian, they stated.
