Photos of last Russian emperor digitally colorized

12.02.2022

Coloring photographs of the family of the last Russian emperor can revive historical characters, Olga Shirnina believes. She works in graphic editors with black and white retro photographs, Pravoslavie.ru reports. According to her, she is a translator from German by education, but coloring photographs has become her real passion.

A similar hobby is common abroad, where there are entire communities of colorists. Some are interested in military photographs, others are interested in cars or historical figures.

Olga Shirnina, who works online under the nickname Klimbim, decided to popularize Russian history. In order to get a reliable result, one needs to study the materials of that era. For example, to search documents for the eye color of the people captured in the pictures.

The most famous was her work on photographs of Nicholas II and his family.
