The festive day began on Trinity Square with a prayer service in honor of the anniversary in the chapel of the Life-Giving Trinity. It was built on the site of the Trinity Cathedral, where Peter I took the title of emperor.

The ceremony participants brought flowers to the grave of Peter the Great. The traditional midday shot in the Naryshkin bastion of the Peter and Paul Fortress was also dedicated to the anniversary.

The ''Double-headed eagle. The symbol of Russian statehood'' exhibition also took place in the Peter and Paul Fortress. The presentation of the commemorative medal "300 years of the Russian Empire" was timed to its opening. Among the exhibits are historical documents, books, arts and crafts, costumes, and coins. The exhibition will remain open until the end of February.
