Residents of Moscow bring flowers to the building of the French embassy to honour the memory of the victims of the terrorist attack that took place in Nice, TASS reports.

On the morning of October 29, a man with a knife attacked believers in the Notre Dame Basilica in the center of Nice. He kill three people and was later detained by the police. According to the head of the city, these people "died a terrible death."

At least one of them was beheaded, as was the teacher who was previously attacked by a radical Islamist in the city of Conflans-Saint-Honorine.

Police sources earlier named the attacker as Brahim Aioussaoi, who had travelled by boat from Tunisia to the Italian island of Lampedusa in September. He was placed in coronavirus quarantine there before being released and told to leave Italy.

The attack at the Notre-Dame Basilica in Nice took place against the backdrop of controversy in France over anti-Islamic cartoons, which escalated after another publication of the Charlie Hebdo magazine featuring the prophet Muhammad.

Russian President Vladimir Putin expressed his condolences to French leader Emmanuel Macron. Putin called the crime committed with particular cruelty within the walls of the temple cynical. It became one more proof that “the concept of human morality is absolutely alien to terrorists,” the message says.

Vladimir Putin said that the Russians shared the anger and grief of the French people. He expressed confidence that the fight against international terrorism required the joining of efforts of the world community. He noted that Russia is ready to cooperate with foreign partners in all areas of counter-terrorism activities. French President has also underlined that France "will not give into terrorism."
