The festival devoted to the Christianization of Rus began in the Ukrainian capital, reports RIA News.

The festival began on the Dnepr bank, where Vladimir is believed to have baptized the people of Kiev. The prayer service was held by the head of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church metropolitan Onufry.

Thousands of believers joined the ceremony, having come from different parts of Ukraine and other countries.
After the prayer at least 200 thousand believers held the Cross Precession in the streets of Kiev, reports ТАSS.

The ceremony finished in Kiev-Pechora Lavra. The Procession is reported to have gone well, without any major incidents.

As we reported earlier, the Ukrainian authorities tried to make it difficult for believers to arrive at Kiev. They wanted to start a new church in Kiev headed by Kiev patriarchy, which would be welcome to arrange the festival.
