Paris is hosting scientific practical conference under the title Revolutionary Events in Russia and Fates of Cossacks. Descendants of the Cossacks, representatives of contemporary Cossacks’ communities, politicians, governmental officials, figures of culture, teachers, historians are taking part in the conference, IA Interfax reports.

The forum is chaired by Metropolitan Kirill of Stavropol and Nevinnomyssk who is heading the Synodal Committee of Cossacks’ Affairs.

An exhibition dedicated to the influence of the Great October Revolution on fates of the Russian Cossacks will work in the Russian Cultural and Spiritual Center at Barley Quai. According to the organizers, the Revolution and the Civil War that followed afterwards were turning points for the national history. The social split affected the Cossacks’ community too. Its representatives found themselves on different sides of the trench, the Cossacks equally fought for the Whites and for the Reds. Repressions of the Soviet period have also influenced the history of the Cossack communities.

Visitors are welcome to see historical documents, archived photos taken a century ago, banners reflecting the role of the Cossacks. The majority of the exhibited items has never seen light before.
