Deputies of the European Parliament Yana Toom, Andrei Mamykin and the writer Kaur Kender sent a petition to lift restrictions from freedom of travel for non-residents, BaltNews reports.

The authors of the document have emphasized that the Estonian non-residents are duly paying all the state taxes and are diligently observing all the rules, however they cannot use all their economic rights in full. The main difference in the rights of residents and non-residents is that the freedom is travel for non-residents is limited and only the European Union residents can freely move around  the territory of the European Union and apply for a job.

The European legislation lets a paradoxical situation happen, where the company registered on the territory of the European Union is using the freedom of movement in full capacity, whereas its owner cannot. For example, you might own a small-scale business in Estonia and want to shift it to Finland. So the company can be moved and its owner cannot, the European Parliament Deputy Yana Toom says. All non-citizens and the European deputies encounter such a problem and intend to put every effort in order to change the current state of affairs.

Other fields also have their own restrictions. For example, Estonian residents have a right to use non-visa entrance in 139 countries, whereas non-residents have a non-visa entrance in 15 countries only.

Authors of the petition focus on the fact that the rights of non-citizens should be discussed in the context of the European legislation.
