Flowers laid at restored Soviet cemetery in Poland

16.04.2018

Kursk society

The solemn ceremony of laying flowers to graves of the Soviet soldiers was held at Proszowice cemetery in Poland on April 14. Polish activists and representatives of Russian and Ukrainian social delegations took part in the ceremony. The cemetery was renovated by efforts of Kursk volunteers.

Polish Kursk society was restoring the Soviet cemetery for several months. Volunteers have done a great job. They have laid the paths, restored the tomb stones and found the names and battle deeds of 360 out of 600 soldiers buried at the cemetery.

Kursk activists work bearing in mind how important it is to preserve memory of WWII heroes for the next generations. Especially today, when Poland and other countries attempt to rewrite the war history and erase deeds of the Soviet soldiers from the people’s memory.

As the Russkiy Mir Foundation reported earlier, last autumn Poland approved of the draft implying annihilation of all references to communism, i.e. monuments to the Soviet soldiers. More than 20 memorials to the Red Army officers who perished defending the Polish lands against the Fascist invaders were demolished.

Russia has many times criticized attempts of the WWII history distortion and the war waged by the Polish authorities with the Soviet monuments.
