Victor Tsoi monument erected in Kazakhstan

Viktor Tsoi monument is opened in Karaganda, Kazakhstan, mk.ru reports. His father Robert Tsoi was present at the opening ceremony.

"I feel very proud about my son," said Robert.

The sculpture was installed by Kazakh-Korean Foundation Er Nur and Nika initiative. The sculptor Dmitry Bukov based his composition on one of the most famous Tsoi albums named A Star Called the Sun. Viktor Tsoi composed the lyrics and music. He also sang all the songs in this and other albums.

Viktor Tsoi (1962 – 1990) was a Soviet-Korean singer and songwriter. He has co-founded band Kino that was one of the most popular and musically influential bands in the history of Russian rock music. The group musicians took their inspiration from Western bands like The Smiths, R.E.M., and The Cure. The pick of the band's popularity occurred in 1987 after Kino performed in cult movie Assa by Sergey Soloviev.

Tsoi is regarded as one of the pioneers of Russian rock and is credited with popularizing the genre throughout the USSR. It's was a unique case of fame that lasted not only in Russia but also abroad. Long ago after Tsoy's tragic death songs of Kino have become popular among indie and electronic musicians in the West. There are many creative remixes of his songs all over the world.
