Russian Orthodox Church celebrates the day of St. Nikolas The Wonderworker's daytoday, August 11. He is the most revered Saint in Russia, and arguably the only one praised three times a year with memorial events.

Nicholas was born in 270 AD. His parents couldn’t have kids for a long time and prayed for a baby. When they died he was left with a big wealth, but he didn’t keep money for himself. Nicholas has always helped the poor. The stories of his gift-giving grew, and after the death St. Nicholas transformed into the legendary Santa Claus who brings Christmas presents to children and adults around the world.

Believers have an absolute faith that the Saint protects and helps everyone who come to him with a pray.

It’s worth mentioning, that Russian cosmonaut Sergey Volkov installed an icon of Saint Nicholas on the International Space Station in 2011.

Let us remember that Holy relics of St. Nicholas were delivered to Russia from Bari on May, 22. More than 1 million people have arrived from all corners of Russia to worship the relics in Moscow, and afterwards in St. Petersburg.
