Ukraine must pay 3 billion debt, High Court of London has ordered. In addition, Kiev will have to compensate a part of court expenses, RIA Novosti reports.

As the Russian Ministry of Finances has explained, the expenses are amounted to £2.8 million or more than $3.5 million. 50% of the debt must be paid no later than September 20.

Along with that, Ukraine is obliged to pay $75 million penalty and interest on these amounts, plus the penalty interest calculated from the end of 2015. Each day of delay will cost the state budget of Ukraine (hence Ukrainian taxpayers) more than $673 thousand, according to the Ministry of Finance.

As we informed before, Russia has filed a lawsuit against Ukraine for not paying the nominal value of Eurobonds at the London's High Court of Justice.

Let us remind you, Russia at the expense of the national Welfare Fund has redeemed Eurobonds of Ukraine at $3 billion in 2013. Until the end of 2015 the debt was secured, but then Ukraine introduced a moratorium on the payment. Ukrainian authorities hoped that Russia would sign the agreement on debt restructuring but Moscow has recognized the status of Ukraine’s debt as sovereign, which means that it should be addressed separately.
