Concert of Russian folk songs in Wroclaw

The music hall of the University of Wroclaw has hosted a concert of Russian folk songs arranged by the Institute of Slavonic Philology and the Russian Center operating at the university. The songs were sung by a guest of our institute a post-graduate student of Tomsk State Pedagogical University Marina Metlyaeva and a professor at the department of the Russian language of the ISP Yakub Valchak.

Marina has a voice of unique tone quality and a great number of songs in her repertoire. She is a soloist of a folk song ensemble and Tomsk considers her to belong to its cultural heritage. Besides having a degree in Russian philology, Yakub graduated from conservatory obtaining his education as a bass-baritone singer and he enjoys singing Russian folk songs.

A performance given by Rector of University of Wroclaw Adam Ezersky, who played several piano Russian romantic songs, was a great surprise for the audience. He told a lot of interesting things about the genre of music he loves very much. As an encore, Adam Ezersky told the audience about Russian chorale music and performed several organ compositions.

The concert led by students of the department of Russian philology of the ISP became a highlighted event for all those loving Russian folk songs.
