The Red Army started its counterattack against the German troops in the region of Moscow 75 years ago, reports TASS. On that day, traditional flower-laying ceremonies are held at the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier and at the monument to Marshall Zhukov in which WW II veterans, young people and representatives of the city authorities take part.

The opening ceremony of the memorial complex dedicated to towns of military glory and dated to the battle at Poklonnaya mountain will take place. The complex consists of a granite stele with a two-headed eagle on its top, plaques carrying the names of all the forty five Russian towns of military glory and four bronze bas-reliefs showing soldiers defending Russia in different epoques.

The exhibition entitled Battle of Moscow. The First Victory hosted by the Central Museum of the Great Patriotic War is dated to the occasion, too. There are over 1,500 items and documents provided by more than fifty museums and archives on display there.

Moscow residents and guests to the capital city of Russia will have the opportunity to visit a photo exhibition entitled For Moscow arranged in Arbat Street. The posters which are on display there show scenes of battles, everyday life of Moscow residents at that time, and pictures of those heroes who defended Moscow during the Great Patriotic War, most of which are presented to the large public for the first time. The Synagogue located on Poklonnaya mountain will host an exhibition dated to the jubilee of the Battle of Moscow as well.

In addition, a gala reception for WW II veterans will be arranged at the Moscow Mayor’s Office today. Its participants will see a concert given by popular Russian stage performers.
