According to Mr. Bäckman, the authorities picked up the twins right from the kindergarten. Viktoria Medvedeva’s elder daughter was picked up from her home. All the children are currently at a shelter. The activist also stressed that the social workers did not have any reason to take the children away.

Viktoria Medvedeva lives is Petrozavodsk but comes to Finland for work. The woman is asking the Russian authorities, diplomats and the Children's Ombudsman for help.

Last year Russian citizens in Finland already came across such situations. Last spring a seven-year-old son of a Russian citizen Lyubov Vlasova who lives in Helsinki was taken away by social workers and relocated in a shelter. After that the boy was resigned to foster-parents. Prior to that 4 children had been taken away from Anastasia Zavgorodnaya.

According to the official statistics, more than 70 children were taken away from the families of Russian citizens in Finland in the years 2013 to 2015.
