Monument to Alexander Khanzhonkov unveiled in Rostov-on-Don

Photo: rostov-gorod.ru A monument to one of the most unique figures in the History of Russian Cinematography Alexander Khanzhonkov has been unveiled in Rostov-on-Don, reports RIA «Novosti».

A three-meter high statue of him set on a two-meter high pedestal was installed in Budennovsky Prospect. The bronze monument shows Alexander Khanzhonkov standing next to an old-fashioned cine camera fixed on a tripod stand. The monument opening ceremony was part of the International Film Festival Bridge of Arts program.

The monument was made by member of the Russian Academy of Arts Sergei Oleshnya.

According to Governor of the Rostov region Vasily Golubev, the unveiling of the monument in Rostov-on-Don is one of the most important events of the Year of Russian Cinema. Mr. Golubev reminded about the fact that Rostov-on-Don was Alexander Khanzhonkov’s home town where he got his education and served as a Cossack officer.

Russian cinematographers, participants of the Bridge of Arts Festival, representatives of the local authorities, mass media and members of the general public were present at the opening ceremony.

As it was reported by Russkiy Mir Foundation, the 2nd Bridge of Arts Festival started yesterday.
