Date of Elections for the State Duma announced

Photo: © Valery Matytsin/TASS The President of the Russian Federation Vladimir Putin has set September 18 as the date of Elections for the State Duma, reports RIA «Novosti».

The election is to be held using mixed electoral system including proportional election system and plurality voting system. 225 deputies are to be elected by party lists and the others are to by single-seat constituency. On the whole, 450 parliamentarians are to be elected to the State Duma of the Federal Assembly of the Russian Federation the 7th convocation.

According to the Chairman of the State Duma Sergey Naryshkin, candidates belonging to about 80 political parties might take part in the elections.

Chairman of the Committee for Education of the State Duma of Russia and the Chairman of the Management Board of the Russkiy Mir Foundation Vyacheslav Nikonov is to take part in the elections as an Edinaya Rossiya party nominee. He runs for parliament in Nizhny Novgorod. During the first Russian primaries held in late May he managed to take the lead.
