Patriarch Kirill has suggested completing the Russian language and literature Unified State Exam with an oral section, reports TASS. He claimed that during a plenary meeting at the first Congress of the Association of Russian Literature.

While speaking at the plenary meeting, Patriarch Kirill underlined that the current form of the Unified State Exam satisfied neither teachers nor school students emphasizing that the complete rejection of the USE would not be a wise decision. The head of the Russian Orthodox Church expressed his conviction about changers that should be made into the procedure of the USE. “It is vitally important that an oral section be added to the exam as it is a chance for a person to demonstrate their personalities”, he said.

He also underlines that the “golden list of Russian literature” should be made in order school students could study them otherwise they fail in holistic comprehension of Russian culture and literature.

Ludmila Verbitskaya, the President of the Russian Academy of Education and Chairperson of the Board of Trustees of the Russkiy Mir Foundation also supported the idea of the USE improvement. According to her, Saint Petersburg University had already developed a number of proposals on the introduction of an oral section into the Russian language Unified State Exam which are supposed to come into effecr yet next year.
