The academic year at the Russian supplemental education school Genius began on September 20. The celebratory first-day assembly was held in accordance with all the Russian traditions – performances by the pupils, the pledge of the first-year students, flowers and, of course, the first bell.
The celebratory assembly was opened by Nadezhda Panayotou, director of the school and head of the board of the Pushkin Russian Culture Society. In her remarks to the parents she expressed her profound gratitude for the interest and sincere desire of the mothers and fathers to have their children study Russian language, culture and traditions. Nadezhda wished the pupils success in their studies, the teachers creative approaches to relaying their knowledge and parents – determination and optimism. She also explained the general rules and regulations for the children at the school, the schedule and the main features of the educational program for the teaching and development of the children.
The head of the parents committee Julia Vasiliadou, speaking to the guests, thanked the entire teaching staff for their professionalism and creative approach to their work, a titanic effort aimed at maintaining the children’s interest in attending the Russian school and studying the Russian language.
The first day of studies included a number of master classes and open lessons for the pupils.
The youngest children in the preschool division of the Genius school were greeted by the lively clown Bimka! The clown’s games, songs and tricks entertained the children and parents alike. The festivities continued with creative activities with the children. The young ones worked fastidiously on various handmade works and collages on the theme “Remembering Summer” which they prepared specially for the clown. During the festivities the children had the opportunity to get to know one another and truly enjoyed their games together.
The fact that the children did not want to leave the school and return was a sure sign of the great work of the teaching staff.
The Genius school in Athens has 165 pupils and two branches in Greece. The school accepts children into both its school and preschool divisions.
