Russia is ready to send free grain to a number of African states, Vladimir Putin said. He announced this during the plenary session of the Russia-Africa Forum, held in St. Petersburg, RIA Novosti reports.

According to the head of state, in the coming months Russia is ready to provide assistance to Mali, Eritrea, Burkina Faso, Central African Republic, Zimbabwe and Somalia. He specified that each consignment of cargo will be from 25,000 to 50,000 tons. The grain will be delivered for free as well.

The meeting participants greeted the words of the Russian President with applause.

Earlier, Moscow expressed its readiness to replace the grain that went to African countries from Ukraine as part of the grain deal.

The 2nd Russia-Africa summit opened on July, 27 in St. Petersburg. It is attended by delegations from 49 countries of the African continent.
