Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov joined the participants in the meeting of the BRICS foreign ministers, TASS reports. It opens on Thursday, June, 1, in Cape Town. South Africa has become the final destination of Lavrov's trip to African countries. He has already visited Burundi, Mozambique and Kenya.

The meeting, chaired by South African Foreign Minister Naledi Pandor, is dedicated to discussing the BRICS summit. It is scheduled for the end of the summer. Johannesburg will host the heads of state of the association.

The forum will bring together not only the ministers of the BRICS countries, but also15 foreign ministers from the countries of the Global South, including those who want to join the BRICS.

Sergei Lavrov will also have several bilateral meetings.

The BRICS's foreign ministers will discuss issues of security and the creation of multipolarity in the world, the criteria and rules for expanding the BRICS, rapprochement with African countries, and much more.

An acute issue in preparation for the summit is the relationship between South Africa and the International Criminal Court (ICC), since the leaders of all participating states are invited to the BRICS summit in August. Earlier, the ICC issued an arrest warrant for Russian President Vladimir Putin. The South African authorities are preparing to amend the legislative framework in order to independently decide on the detention of any person whose arrest the ICC seeks.
