MIR cards accepted in 11 countries

Cards of the Russian MIR payment system are accepted in 11 countries, in the near future, the number of such states may increase. 15 countries on different continents are ready to connect Mir, TASS reports. "Mir" in translation from Russian means "peace".

The countries where Russian cards are freely accepted include Belarus, Armenia, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan and others. In Turkey, five banks have connected the system, and one can even use cards issued by Russian banks under sanctions. With some restrictions, Mir cards can be used in South Korea.

According to the Bank of Russia, in the near future, Mir card will be used in the states of Asia and Latin America. Five Asian countries — Sri Lanka, Thailand, China and others — have expressed their readiness to join the Mir payment system, and several countries in the region are ready to discuss such a possibility.

Egypt, Iran and Bahrain intend to allow the acceptance of Mir cards in the near future, this issue is being discussed with the United Arab Emirates. In Latin America, Cuba may be the first to join the Russian system, the country promises to accept Mir cards by the end of this year. This possibility is also being considered in Venezuela and Cyprus.
