Anti-Russian sanctions are leading Western countries to death, says French banker Philippe Villin. His op-ed was published in Le Figaro, RIA Novosti reports.

Villin noted that Russia is the most important supplier for Europe. When introducing sanctions against it, the authorities of European countries did not discuss their possible consequences with businessmen and their voters. Meanwhile, rising energy prices have led to an explosion in heating costs, households are getting poorer, and their transport costs are rising. Price decline is not expected, the expert says, and Europe will take the brunt of the financial blow.

According to Villin, representatives of the European Central Bank are trying to hide the true causes of the situation. They argue that inflation in the European Union was the result of overheating due to the fact that the budget and monetary policy was not carried out tough enough.

Villin hopes that the crisis will lead to political debate, where citizens and businesses can express their position. ''Blind ''Eurocrats'' are leading us to death with their brazen lies,'' the banker is sure.
