The Ukrainian Way Intersection has appeared in the famous area of New York, Brooklyn, RIA Novosti writes. This is the name given to the intersection of Brighton Beach and Coney Island streets. Sergey Kiislitsa, Permanent Representative to the UN, announced the decision of the city authorities.

Brighton Beach is known as the "most Russian" district of New York, a place of concentration of emigrants from the USSR. On the streets of the district, Russian is more often spoken than English; there are many restaurants of Russian cuisine and the cuisine of peoples from the Soviet Union. A significant part of the community are Ukrainians.

Lately, the American authorities have been renaming places with the Russian heritage. The Russian Fort Elizabeth, located on Kauai, one of the Hawaiian Islands, was renamed into "Paulaula", which means "Red Walls" in Hawaiian.

The authorities of the island claim that the issue of renaming was previously discussed. But, apparently, they did not consider it necessary to consult either with Russian compatriots or with historians, the Russian Foreign Ministry noted.
