North Korea has recognized the people's republics of Donbass, TASS reports.

The head of the Donetsk People's Republic (DPR), Denis Pushilin, announced Pyongyang's recognition of the DPR on his telegram channel. In his opinion, this means that the international status of the republic continues to strengthen. Pushilin called Pyongyang's recognition of the republic "another victory for our diplomacy." He also thanked the people of the DPRK for the support provided to the residents of Donbass. Pushilin is sure that active and fruitful cooperation awaits the country.

The DPRK also handed over to the Russian Embassy in Pyongyang a note recognizing the independence of the DNR and LNR.

Earlier, Syria recognized the independence of the Donbass republics. The head of Syria, Bashar al-Assad, ordered the launch of the relevant procedure.

Russian President Vladimir Putin announced the recognition of the sovereignty of the DPR and LPR in February.

A few days after Russia, the independence of the Donetsk and Lugansk People's Republics was recognized by Abkhazia.
