Russia has added to the list of Canadian citizens who are banned from entering the country, the Russian Foreign Ministry reports. The move came in retaliation for the new personal sanctions that Canada had imposed on Russian businessmen, high-ranking Russian military officers and defense officials.

More than 40 people will not be able to enter Russian territory. Among them are leaders of organizations supporting ultra-nationalist forces in Ukraine, as well as senior military officials.

Earlier, Russia's MFA expanded the list of Canadian citizens who were permanently banned from entering Russia. The Foreign Ministry recalled that sanctions against Canadian officials and public figures were previously introduced in response to the hostile actions of Ottawa. The next restrictions on the part of the Canadian authorities also affected the family members of those who have already been added to the “black list”. Among them are senior officials and their relatives, the management of enterprises in the military-industrial complex and the shipbuilding industry, high-ranking officers.

Earlier, the Russian sanctions list mnetioned 592 persons, including parliamentarians, public figures, representatives of ministries and military departments of Canada.
