Washington is trying to accuse Russia of allegedly systematically violating the religious rights of citizens, the Russian Embassy in the United States said. This was reported in the telegram channel of the diplomatic mission.

Similar claims have previously been made by overseas politicians. Virtually every report on religious freedom in the world, which is released by the State Department annually, claims that Moscow is complicit in egregious violations in this area.

Russian diplomats emphasize that the United States is politicizing the sphere of freedom of conscience and religion. They hang unceremonious labels on unwanted countries, and then use them to interfere in their interior affairs.

The Russian embassy emphasized that Russia from the very beginning of its history has remained a multinational and multi-confessional country. Therefore, relations based on mutual respect are built between representatives of different ethnic groups and religions. The diplomats called the protection of the rights of worshippers an absolute priority and assured that there were no persecutions on religious grounds in Russia.

At the same time, Moscow has never been seen wanting to influence the religious sphere in other countries. While the actions of Washington, for the sake of its own geopolitical goals, have more than once become the reason for the development of interfaith tensions in the Middle East, North Africa, and the former Yugoslavia. These kinds of steps have always resulted in conflicts and numerous casualties, summed up the Embassy.
