The Western anti-Russian sanctions imposed after the start of the special operation in Ukraine have negatively affected the economic situation in the world, and hit hard the poor countries in particular. This was stated by Foreign Minister of Mali Abdoulaye Diop, RIA Novosti reports.

According to the minister, food prices increased because of anti-Russian sanctions, and a number of industries, including banking, are experiencing difficulties. Abdoulaye Diop noted that Western restrictions have hit the global economic system, and the consequences of this are already being felt in poor countries, where there are difficulties in providing people with basic needs.

The minister noted that in Mali they faced a shortage of wheat on the market, and residents of the country with low incomes cannot afford food, which quickly disappears from the shelves. According to the head of the Foreign Ministry, the food crisis provoked by anti-Russian sanctions may result in more victims than the terrorism in Mali.
