The "The Significance of the Transformations of Peter the Great in the New and Contemporary History of Russia" scientific conference started on Tuesday, March 17, Rossiyskaya Gazeta writes. It is conducted by the Institute of Russian History of the Russian Academy of Sciences. According to its director Yuri Petrov, the reforms of the first Russian emperor continued to affect the development of the state after his death, and even into the next century. The forum is dedicated to the anniversary of the emperor. This year marks the 350th anniversary of his birth.

Fortunately, almost all foreign scientists decided not to withdraw from the forum. The tough international situation did not prevent historians from Austria, Bulgaria, Italy, the USA, Tunisia and France from speaking at the conference. Russian science is represented by 30 regions of the country.

According to the scientific director of the Russian Military Historical Society Mikhail Myagkov, the image of Peter the Great always remains with Russia. The events of the beginning of the 18th century has not lost its relevance even now, several centuries later.
