Scottish ex-politician and social activist Andy McGill offered to buy the monument to the Liberators of Riga at his own expense. The Scot is ready to transport the monument to Edinburgh or install it in Narva. The erection of the monument in one of the Russian regions is also on the list of options, Rossiyskaya Gazeta reports.

The McGills family, in response to attacks on Russia and attempts to abolish Russian culture, hoisted the Russian tricolor on their house. The Scot has admired the Soviet Union and Russian art since childhood, the passion began when his father brought a record of Russian music from a concert of the Alexandrov Orchestra.

The McGills visited Riga and were outraged that law enforcement officers were detaining demonstrators at the monument. The ex-politician is worried about attempts to denigrate the feat of Soviet soldiers.

Special Representative of the Russian President on International Cultural Cooperation Mikhail Shvydkoy recalled that many Scots honor the memory of how Soviet and British soldiers fought together against the Nazis, the countries were connected by military cooperation and human friendship.
