Vyacheslav Nikonov, First Deputy Chairman of the State Duma Committee on International Affairs, Chairman of the Board of the Russkiy Mir Foundation, commented on the veto imposed by Senator Rand Paul on the bill on $40 billion assistance to Ukraine:

''Kentucky Senator Rand Paul blocked a bill providing Ukraine with a record amount of financial assistance  – almost $40 billion. It must be noted that Rand Paul has always been a black sheep in the American Parliament. He is perhaps the only representative of the Senate who does not succumb to the anti-Russian hysteria that has swept Congress and the entire American politicalsystem. He did what he could.

The vote should have taken place yesterday, if no one had objected to the bill. Rand Paul objected the bill, so its passing was postponed. Now it will be held according to the usual procedure, and in 3-4 days the bill will be adopted by an overwhelming majority of votes.

At the same time, at least half of the US population does not understand why such money is thrown into Ukraine, while an economic crisis is unfolding in America. And the money, coming from nowhere, is sent to help a country that the vast majority of Americans can't find on a map. People have problems with inflation, with rising prices for gasoline and food, that's what they really care about. Rand Paul just reflects such sentiments prevailing in American society. But not in the elite!

It is clear that when Congress votes "for" Ukraine, it is actually about Russia and how to create the maximum number of problems for us. And since the question is about American global dominance and the weakening of Russia, no expense will be spared.

And Ukrainians in the United States will also not be spared. Money and weapons will go to Ukraine so that it fights with us to the last Ukrainian. We understand this well and know what kind of "help" this will be. But our cause is just, and victory will be ours.''
