Western scientists came out in support of their Russian colleagues, the REN TV channel reports. Researchers from the US, Canada and the UK put more than 60 signatures under an open letter published in the Science journal, one of the most authoritative and well-known scientific journals.

The authors are sure that the refusal to cooperate with Russian researchers will negatively affect various areas of science and hinder the search for solutions to many problems of the global world.

In the message, Russia is called a power with a highly educated population, one of the leaders in the field of science, art and literature.

Earlier, Italian scientists opposed the government's recommendations to suspend cooperation with colleagues from Russia and Belarus. According to the Federation of Science and Knowledge Workers, the specialized branch of the largest Italian trade union - the Italian General Confederation of Labour, this decision is regrettable. The message notes that the trade union is disappointed with such recommendations.

Skoltech professor Artyom Oganov and Oslo University professor Nils Stenset issued an open letter calling on colleagues around the world not to refuse to cooperate with Russian scientists and scientific organizations. The letter was sent to the Nature journal.  In a difficult period, people of science should continue to communicate, despite the halt of diplomatic dialogue, professors from Russia and Norway stressed.
