Italian authorities urged businesses to cancel meeting with Putin

The Italian authorities recommended the heads of the country's largest companies to refrain from a video call with Russian President Vladimir Putin due to the situation in Ukraine, Bloomberg, reports, citing a source in the Italian authorities. 

The Kremlin's press service announced a videoconference on Wednesday, January 26. The event was initiated by the head of the Italian-Russian Chamber of Commerce (IRCC) Vincenzo Trani. The aim of the meetingwas to improve relations between businessmen and Russian institutions, to support bilateral trade and economic projects. The program includes discussion of investments and prospects, focusing on energy sector, finance, industry and environmental technologies.

According to La Repubblica, which cites sources in the Italian government, businessmen were urged to cancel the meeting or at least refuse to participate in it. 

The IRCC stressed that they had not received requests from the Italian authorities to postpone the conference, it will take place as scheduled.
